A few days back I read in Times of India Newspaper quoting about a research that says, having full caloric requirement for 5 days a week and fasting on remaining two days of the week helps to loose weight and remain healthy.
This reminds me of the age old tradition of fasting in India since eons. Though these fastings are given a background of religious rituals, it is the wisdom of our sages(from all religions) who inculcated these practices in the name of religion. These sages were scientists of that period and they were aware of the benefits of fasting for human body. Hence we have Catholics who fast, Islamic population practising Roza, Hindus with the fasting days attributed to Gods and Godesses, Jains doing eight days fasting in Paryushan and many other fasts, Buddhist population fasting on particular days of month and so on...
The concept remains the same... just that scientific community finds out the science behind them by various permutations and combinations... its just like Old wine in new bottle!!!
