The Decision-making Clock of Life...

What makes mind unable to take the right decision? Is it the uncertainty of future , the attachment? the insecurity? the fear of unknown? the continuous firing of Ifs n Buts in mind? Time and Tide waits for none! After all movement is life and stagnation is death, rightly said by my Mentor! Then what makes us wait for the so called 'right' time to take a decision and how do we know what IS the 'right' time? Its always easier to choose between the right and the wrong, but  between two better or two worse scenarios mind is at loggerheads!

The solution to this would be to rely on observations for a while, then with a little analysis, adjustment, apprehension and anticipation take a step further with your gut feeling plus certain amount of calculated risk, like a gamble... ofcourse with best in mind but preparation for the worst! Life can never be completely perfect, it is about making the most of what comes your way and if you loose out on identifying that... who knows it might be too late to mend, coz even a right decision at wrong time is WRONG!!!

Forty Rules of Love - A must read for those in search of Truth!

Recently I started reading a novel 'Forty Rules of Love' written by Elif Shafak. It was recommended by a Friend to whom I am extremely grateful for introducing it to me. Initially when I heard the name, I thought it must be some romantic/formula novel for love. Surprisingly I dont know what came over me and though I have not had the opportunity or time to read a book in past couple of years, I dont know what made me instantly order the book on internet and immediately start reading it as soon as it arrived...I now realise it was meant to be.... and probably the book is hunting for people like me who want to keep exploring about the Truth of existence!

In the initial part of the book the story moves around the lives of each character but the real joy starts after the meeting of a wandering Dervish named Shams of Tabriz and a Sufi poet named Rumi in the thirteenth century. From here onwards as I go on reading page by page, I can completely relate to every rule explained by Shams and feel as if its quenching the thirst of my soul....as if I have known the gist of all rules in this book since ages, just waiting to comprehend them in written words. This is the second time in my life I feel a step closer to the domain of Ultimate Truth , the first  time was when I got introduced to Vipassana meditation four years back.

The pearls of wisdom revealed by Shams of Tabriz and the simplified meaning of verses from The Holy Quran in this book has reinforced my views that all religions have similar preachings. The description of Rules of love is in complete harmony with Vipassana and talks about the peace experienced during self-realisation in the present moment - Zen wisdom!

All in all, core remains the same and the practical experience of Vipassana helped me to assimilate this book better. There is a striking similarity between phases of Soul evolution described in Quran and Buddhist scriptures. Great men have trodden the same path repeatedly at different times and different places but the basic principles and direction remain the same...only languages and methods of practice differ!

To see the mysteries unfold in same fashion through different conduits is experiencing the ultimate truth repeatedly with every step leading towards ''The Only truth''

Old Wine in New Bottle!

A few days back I read in Times of India Newspaper quoting about a research that says, having full caloric requirement for 5 days a week and fasting on remaining two days of the week helps to loose weight and remain healthy.

This reminds me of the age old tradition of fasting in India since eons. Though these fastings are given a background of religious rituals, it is the wisdom of our sages(from all religions) who inculcated these practices in the name of religion. These sages were scientists of that period and they were aware of the benefits of fasting for human body. Hence we have Catholics who fast, Islamic population practising Roza, Hindus with the fasting days attributed to Gods and Godesses, Jains doing eight days fasting in Paryushan and many other fasts, Buddhist population fasting on particular days of month and so on...

The concept remains the same... just that scientific community finds out the science behind them by various permutations and combinations... its just like Old wine in new bottle!!!

Kahin to hai woh...

Kahin to hai woh, haan kahin to ....
Ek dhundhla sa chehra
Sapnon ki gehraayiyon mein khoya hua
Har chehre mein khojti hai ye nazare jise
Anjaanepan ka nakaab pehne tadpaa raha hai!
Phir bhi ye khoj zaari hai dil ke kisi kone mein...
Kya ye yakeen, hakikat mein badal paayega?
Dil ki dhadkane kuchh ruk si gayi hai..
Phir bhi intezaar hai iske phir se dhadakne ka!
Haan ye yakeen hai is dil ko...
Kahin to hai woh, haan kahi to....

Never Give Up!!!

Life is a journey,
Miles to tread up on....
Should not give up at all,
Just go on and on and on...
Never let sadness take possession over you,
coz its you who has to prove your identity true
and make your dreams come true!
When everyone around you turn their back,
Behold, dont be sad !
Coz they are not the ones you lack.
Just give a thought to the time, when you'll reach the peak,
And everyone is returning back!
But Remember, to reach that peak, you have to kill your emotions weak!
Be Steady, Calm, Cool
and Pass all your downs in Life
With Nature's only Rule...
NEVER GIVE UP!!!

VIJAYPATH "विजयपथ"

Log raah chalte milenge, log bichchdenge.
Kuchh logon ki sirf yaadein reh jaayengi,
Toh kuchh dil mein hamesha ke liye ghar kar jaayenge!
Kuchh logon ke teekhe anubhav dil ko maayoos kar jaayenge,
Toh kuchh log hauslaa buland kar jaayenge!
Aae musafir, tujhe in sab mein sey
Keval achchaayi ko panaah deni hai
Aur apni manzil ki taraf avirat badhte rehna hai
Kabhi kisi adchan ko aade na aane dena
Yaad rahe, tera dhyeya kathinayeeon ki jwaalaa mein tapkar,
Suvarnaroop vijay hokar baahar nikalna hai!
Naa ki uski aag mein jalkar khaak hona hai!

Are there really any benefits of rich lineage?

Heard someone I respect say that heritage (genetic lineage) plays very important role in shaping up an individual's life and aptitude.... Well it is right to a certain extent but I beg to differ a little, in the sense that its just half truth because If only thats the case then what heritage did Mr Jamshedji Tata have when he was born in a poor family? The empire he built and left for his heirs to expand comes from simple man's brains, hard work and determination! Similarly Mr Dhirubhai Amabani was a school teacher's son and the heights he scaled is an open book for everyone! These are the men who made it big instead of very humble background.

On the other hand Bahadur Shah Jafar was the last of Moghul emperor who although being from a royal family got overthrown by British Raj. What about his genetic lineage?.... the royal blood born and brought up between political environment but unfortunately got defeated!

I certainly feel, more than the genetic lineage, its the burning desire, intelligence, hard work and intuitive power with a vision which determines how far a person would reach in  their journey of life! and all these qualities along with right guidance from parents' rich heritage becomes an icing on the cake!

Kaisa ye Kalyug!

Kaisa ye kalyug hai, kaisa ye kalyug hai!
Ek oar jahaan  rayeesi ko rutbaa toh dikhaawe ko sach samajhte hai,
Doosri oar kisiki achhayi ko majboori  toh Koile ki khaan me pade heere ko  pathhar samajhte hai!
Aisa ye kalyug, haan aisa ye kalyug hai!
Doosron ko sharaafat ke taraazu me tolna chahta hai har koi,
Kabhi khudke girebaan mein jaankhkar dekhna nahin chahta koi!
Kaisa ye kalyug hai,  kaisa ye kalyug hai!
Saadgi  bhari zindagi basar karna chaahe har kisi ka mann,
Phirbhi  lubhati sabko is duniya ki bebuniyaad chakaachaundh!
Aisa ye kalyug, haan aisa ye kalyug hai!
Jinse pyaar na mile, unhi se pyaar ki fariyaad karte hai,
Aur  jo pyaar mein sab kucch qurbaan kare, unse aankhmicholi khelte hai!
Kaisa ye kalyug hai, kaisa ye kalyug hai!
Kehtein hai...
Pyaar mein jaan dete thhe mohabbat karne wale, aisa bhi ek daur tha heer-raanjha laila-majnuka koi
Aajka ye daur hai...
Duniyadaari ki uljhan me ulajhkar  pyaar ko hi  jung ka maidaan bana leta hai har koi!
Aisa ye kalyug, haan aisa ye kalyug hai!
Doosron ki kareebiyon ko dekhkar jalta hai auron ka dil!
Arrey khud ki pareshaaniyon se nahin par doosron ki khushiyon se dukhta hai logon ka dil!!!

Bas Yunhi...

Kitni khwahishon ko sapnon mein sawaar rakkha hai
Zindagi is tarah jiyenge... us tarah guzaarenge...
Aise bitaayenge... Waise kaam kar jaayenge...
Rote hue aaye thhe, Hastein chale jaayenge!
Kambakhat waqt ki raftaar aur daud ka silsila, itne bereham hai,
Saans lene ki bhi razaa leni padti hai, Farz ke thhekedaaron se!

God's Perfect Best Creation !!!

Last week Sunday I attended a workshop on aesthetic procedures and bumped into a colleague of mine working with a well-known Dermatocosmetologist in suburbs. We exchanged hellos and something led us into a discussion about our respective Head of the Clinics and ended up in an argument about whose is the best? I had to sweetly turn it down then by saying lets not go into it!

Today when I look back I realise I am cent percent right in saying mine is the best....Being the best is not only about knowledge, wealth, fame, success, beauty, the X- factor, influence or prominence in the society, its also about how one is truly at the innermost depths of their heart as a human being, the humility factor which is evident by how one treats their juniors, their sub-ordinates, staff and even a stranger...She is  not only an achiever as a physician and aesthetician but also a reknowned Dermatologist in the country and one of the most revered professionals respected by her seniors, colleagues, juniors, students, patients and pharmaceutical companies both national and international. She exemplifies knowledge in depth with its best application in practical life. She is a lovely human being - very gentle, polite and kind hearted, who thinks from everyones perspective with an open mind...

Her energetic and charismatic personality with a 'go-getter' attitude is an inspiration for me to follow her footsteps. She is a trend-setter and an Institution by herself, a Teacher who teaches with open hands and infinite love... I am extremely fortunate to have come in touch with her and be her student...

Her action, knowledge and words of wisdom made me realise yesterday that any problem in life is just so trivial. That God has gifted us so much and we owe something back to God's creation...  which we can do by our sincere work and provide relief to suffering patients similar on the lines of my other Mentor Dir. Prof. Dr K. C. Mohanty Sir's teachings. She has an eye for perfection and the best critic who brings out the minutest of details into focus and suggests improvement for the better!

My heart is overjoyed and enthralled to be under her tutelage, to be her protegee and receiving the perfect guidance and direction in life!!!

Bas Yunhi....

Khuda ki ibaadat mein jab bhi ye haath uthaaye,
Ek hi dua maangi - har khushi tumhe mil jaaye!
Meri zindagi se tum jiyo, Tumhari maut se ham mar jaaye!

What Beauty means to me?

BEAUTY - the most sought after , the most variedly perceived and the most enigmatic word which eludes people of all generations, religions and nationalities.
Beauty in its entire sense is not just the looks and appearance but encircles both the physical and mental dimensions exuding oomph, confidence, love n compassion for all and projects intellectual skills for the betterment of this world! Without these virtues the word 'BEAUTY' is incomplete and empty.
Beauty to me is what I saw when my parents provided unconditional love, care and support when I was growing up, the unconditional teachings and guidance of all the Teachers in my life.... It is in the alternation of the sun and the moon everyday to remind me that light and darkness are both a part of life highlighting each other's importance. Beauty is also in the willingness to accept with an open mind, crossing the orthodox barriers. It is as much of giving as of receiving unconditionally!

One of my one-liners!

Marrying someone who loves you makes you precious and indispensable,
Marrying someone you love makes you vulnerable and easily dispensable,

When Two people truly love each other marry to unite  at  Soul  level, the journey of  life becomes meaningful, complete and enjoyable!!!

Experience is the best Teacher, but the price paid is too high!

I have realised one thing that one should not be too sweet and giving at all the times. It makes one being taken for granted and played around with easlily! So one needs to draw a line and disallow anybody to cross it.

I have observed self-centred shrewd persons getting away successfully in life and those who are sincere, loyal, loving and polite suffer... always being taken advantage of. Straightforward people usually are unable to fabricate things and end up being side-lined by the Crooked ones who have fox-brains and know how to juggle situations in their favour, portraying facts falsely.

I’ve failed repeatedly and miserably in trying to become a fox coz my conscience never allows me to... n m glad that I am not absorbing the pollution from the environment... But I have learnt it in a hard way that being straightforward does not mean becoming vulnerable!

Just like what my Mentor says, “ Be sweet... but don’t be too sweet that people will devour you; be firm but don’t be too firm that people will dislike you!” I made a mistake of being too sweet which I have understood with experience.

So true - Experience is the best Teacher, but the price paid is too high!!!

Gandhiji - A Karmayogi Saint!

Saints and Pirs are sent by God to perform a particular task in this world. AjmerSharif Baba was sent to spread Sufism, Saibaba was sent to bring unity between Hindu and Muslims, Sant Kabir was sent to compose  religious songs which can be sung by people from all religions and there are innumerable such examples.

Similarly India, Pakistan and Bangladesh all were under the British rule and people were suffering. To relieve the sufferings of people and get them freedom from foreigner's rule, Gandhiji aka Bapu was chosen by God and sent to this world to carry out this task. He used the well-known time tested path to achieve independence, that is, Ahimsa which is the basic principle of all religions. Ahimsa does not limit only to "not killing" but also extends to "non- retaliation to any provocation" Only a saint can remain calm and composed instead of all the turmoils and wrong-doings from others and though Gandhiji lived the life of a Grihashtha, he was no less than a saint - a Karmayogi Saint.

Gandhiji said - " An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind". Only a saint with his divine power and energy can drive millions of people to follow a novel path to achieve Independence. During freedom fight, millions followed him blindly and sacrificed everything. Ultimately with the people's support and strength He got Independence for them....so silmilar to the incidence where Moses asked his followers to cross the sea and they followed him blindly and even sea parted to make way for them to reach safe land beyond the reach of enemies.

When saints work is over they usually leave the world before getting entangled in worldly matters. Probably when Almighty realised that Bapu's work was over, he took him away.

He was a true Karmayogi Saint because he practised as a Lawyer after obtaining Law Degree from London, married and had a family, lived a life of Grihastha but donned the qualities of a Saint and worked unstoppingly to get Independence for all of us!

He is indoubtedly a true messenger of God who brought solace to millions of people in Indian subcontinent without a single weapon or ill spoken word against the all-powerful British Raj. His principle has been followed by the most advanced country in this world - USA - Martin Luther King!

My Ideal !!!

To describe a ‘Woman’ is very complex. Most women lie in the spectrum of commoners with common characters and outlook. It is difficult to find a person who raises herself above the mass and walks the untrodden path, setting trends for the future generation to follow. She belongs to the rarest of Woman Species bestowed with 3 B’s – Beauty, Brains and Big Heart!!!
I am very fortunate to get an opportunity to work with one of them ---- my enchanting Boss and Teacher. Brilliant, Beautiful, Bold, Benevolent, Gracious and Bounteous Teacher, she is a perfect blend of Indian values, modern thinking and focussed disciplined life. Her sword sharp memory, keen observation, endeavouring hard work, innovative ideas, rational thinking, clinical acumen, aesthetic assessment, spectacular oration and entrepreneurial skills continue to fascinate and inspire me. Her capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously has to be seen... to be believed! Her passion for fitness, interest in singing and elegant wardrobe makes her a woman of class and taste! On the other hand her extremely caring affection for pets Tasha, Tia, Rancho, to name a few I know of.... her  love, care and sympathy for all staff members and assistant Doctors reveals her tender heart of a Mother with limitless love for all.
Her invaluable inputs and guidance are channelizing my thoughts and energy in the right direction and I am elated to look up to her as my Ideal.
Initially sceptical of working under a Woman Boss after all the experiences from so many women, I profusely Thank GOD to have blessed me with the privilege of working for her under her guidance. To work with her is a heartfelt joyous experience.
I will always cherish knowing her from such close quarters!

Tribute to the Teachers in my Life!

II Tvame va Mata cha Pita Tvame va, Tvame va Bandhu cha Sakha Tvame va,
Tvame va Vidya, Dravinam Tvame va, Tvame va Sarvam, Mam Deva Deva II

Everytime I hear this while watching Chandragupta Maurya serial on COLORS channel, a chill runs down my spine. As if it is so familiar to my subconscious, my soul knows exactly what it means. Its so true that life becomes meaningful with a proper guide or teacher, to show you the way out of life’s puzzles, to raise your spirits when failures try to pull you down, encourage you to give your best performance and enlighten you with knowledge. If parents give us birth physically, it is the Teacher who gives birth to our aptitude and persona.

We are a bundle of knowledge and experiences gathered from so many teachers in our lives, not just academic teachers, but also parents, siblings, friends, spiritual teachers, professional guides, books and others.Of course I also remember and remain grateful to Teachers who have taught me routine chores of life; ones that I remember like cooking, driving, computers and many more. Even a stranger on streets from whom I pick up some good  is my Teacher and I want to mention all of them in my thanksgiving for making me what I am today!

And then there are also those Teachers – the other kinds whose bitter experiences gave me an insight into the darker side of life. For instance, the ones I trusted and got deceived by, taught me to be precautious, alert and beware of chameleons. In a way, they also made me realise the importance of  kind Teachers in my Life!

In chronological order after my birth, my first Guru are my Parents who taught me to speak, to walk on my feet in childhood. As I grew they spent for my education wholeheartedly at a time when friends and relatives would try dissuading them from spending on me, a Hindu daughter who is supposed to marry and go away as per the traditions. They are the ones who love unconditionally! Thankyou God Almighty for being present in my life as my Parents !

After my Parents my next Guru is my maternal Grandmother Shantaben Chandulal Shah who took care of me in my childhood... She was my foster Mother and she sowed the seeds of righteousness from the time my mind was tender and raw. She would engage me in religious teachings of Jainism and take us daily to temple for doing Pooja. A very beautiful and straighforward lady of high self respect with kind and forgiving heart, the vacuum created by her loss cannot be refilled ever ... Her loss made me come in touch with Vipassana... She guided me while she was alive and even after walking into the other side of the world!

A special memory of one of the very few and first persons to have recognised my potentials and encouraged me morally was Shri Vishnuprasad Sharma, Father of my Moms friend. We used to call him Dadaji fondly as he was truly a wellwishing Elder for our family. We still remember the loving affection in his eyes and warmth in his heart for our family! Forever grateful to him...

At Spiritual level, my first Guru is Shri Sadguru Sai Baba. I still remember that day when I prayed to HIM at Shirdi from the deepest of my heart to guide me into living a life of dignity and integrity, to make me capable of differentiating between the right and the wrong, to always guide me on the right path and discourage any deviations towards the wrong step, if any. HE blessed me, answered my prayers and still keeps doing so. I always feel HIS unseen presence with me!

Next in order is my Family's Mentor, Emeritus Director Professor Dr K. C. Mohanty, who introduced me to the fundamentals of spirituality- the love and devotion to work for mankind. A man of outstanding integrity he provides pro-bono services to the poor, unconditional services to the society, works for the betterment of country affairs and environment. He is a Social reformer working ceaselessly to reform lives of the backward and  the deprived, a dedicated educationalist giving away every bit of his knowledge, guidance and motivation to every student and a pioneer in his field giving many original guidelines and medicine molecules to medical fraternity through innumerable researches. To sum up in few words he is a man of his words, self-made, strict disciplinarian, omniscient, a prolific orator with infallible judgement, a philosopher continuously churning futuristic thoughts from his grey matter and always oozing with positive spirits. He is a Nationalist by conviction “to the last drop of my blood” in his own words!  Lots to learn from Him! He continues to inspire me to do my level best and conform upto his expectations.

After Him, it is Shri Premji Savla Guruji, who is Chief Acharya and Head in-charge of Dhammagiri Vipassana Centre (Headquarters of Vipassana Meditation Centres across the world). It was a co-incidental meet with him when I was in mental turbulence. He could read through my mind and brought my stormy mind in stability. I am very fortunate that he accepted me as his pupil from then and there. He introduced me to the depths of Vipassana and helped me to understand better the virtue of equanimity, impermanence of everything under the sun and encourages to work for suffering world. Bearing an immensely radiating Aura, his presence makes us light up with utmost peace, tranquillity and positivity, celebrating existence. I learnt the art of living and leaving (worldly attachments) in real sense by practicing Vipassana which reinforces ‘Memento Mori’- Remember your mortality!

A person who can guide you in hard times is like a sail to your boat in times of storms.. Such a person's kind gesture is invaluable and precious. And so is Shri Date Guruji, an extraordinarily blessed soul who reads Aura - the electromagnetic radiations from physical bodies of people and guides them. Grateful to have learnt many things from him and fortunate to have met him in this lifetime. God bless my school friend Poonam who intoduced me to him.

The guidance and blessings of all these Teachers freed me from the dungeons of despair and depression at a point when I was about to breakdown. They revived my self confidence to get back on my feet and win back my self respect.

It is definitely a task for the Teacher to mould the soft clayed minds of pupil with utmost care and channelize their energies in the right direction. Just like a potter has to shape up the earthern pots and bake them in heat slowly without breaking, so it can provide cool water. A very meaningful truth I read somewhere - “Just as the Sun is valued not only for its intrinsic radiance but also for its ability to illuminate the world, so the brilliance of a Teacher is determined not only by the clarity of His teachings  but also by His ability to illuminate those who come to Him for refuge and make them luminaries in their own right!”

I was, am and will always remain grateful to all these Patriarchs of  my wisdom (whatever little bit I collected from them) who have nurtured the seed of uprightness and values in my mind, protected the sapling from the wilderness of world which is headed on its way to growing into a mature tree. The real test would lie in my ability to follow the footsteps of my Teachers and pass on and disseminate the knowledge to those who need and appreciate it!

An Insight into Friendship

A thought crossed my mind as to why the relation shared by two friends is called ‘Friendship’?
Friendship - a relation embodying Faith, Honesty, Selflessness and Empathy!
Methinks its because this is a Ship which empowers us to cross the troubled waters on a stormy dark night and witness a calm morning twilight; friend’s moral support being the guiding star. In times of trials and tribulations this ship saves and redeems us from sinking to the bottom of gloomy loneliness by raising our spirits. It gives us the ray of hope to keep moving on and holds the promise of a better tomorrow by ironing out the stress factor. So life becomes a pleasant adventurous journey albeit, being a stark reality of hardships. The feeling of togetherness unfolds the mysteries of existence with much ease. As time gauges the depth of friendship, it strengthens the bond as well.
I wish to sail on this ship with friend, worthy to be....
Your guiding star

Ancient Indian versus Modern Perspective on Sex.

Today some discussion with a friend made me recall one of the article on ‘Sex and Bollywood: Crass Footage or Class Act’ and I rolled back the pages of my Diary where I had somewhere written my point of view on the same! The article conveyed by Mr Mahesh Bhatt can be found in archives of TOI :
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com//home/sunday-toi/all-that-matters/Sex-and-Bollywood-Crass-footage-or-class-act/articleshow/806688.cms

We do agree that Sex is an old Tantra of ancient India being evident from age-old pulchritudinous carvings of Lord Shiva & Goddess Parvati on the walls of our sacred shrines in different sex postures. Even that Lord Shiva’s Shivalinga symbolises the male and female sex organs locked in the act of copulation which many people might still be unaware of! Also Kamasutra was written by our great sage Vatsyayana not only as a manual on sex but also as a guide to live life with grace and virtue for achieving all the goals of a human life- Dharma (Righteousness, Duty), Artha (Wealth), Kama (Desire) and Moksha (Liberation)

The matter of these facts is only meant to observe sex from a healthy point of view. ‘SEX’ is the essence of life and should be a medium to enrich experiences of  life without being victimised by Lust which abase our souls with unsavoury desires to become slaves of passion.

The Tantra of India does not preach us to be promiscuous or sell our soul and conscience for achieving material gains which is quite unveiled by the many casting couch revelations. Neither does our Indian Tantra inspire to take undue advantage of position and authority to force a woman lie on the bed unwillingly.

Sex, infact, in its true sense can be enjoyed only when two souls rather than two individuals are involved in it selflessly with the entirety of their hearts and consent. It can be compared to taking a plunge into a divine valley from the pinnacles of emotions, the senses devoid of the self-existence on this world!

Meagrely doing it for deriving temporary pleasures or boosting the illusion of ego or adopting shortcuts to the expressway of worldwide fame and limelight means deceiving your soul as well as your partner's. These only demean, devalue and trivialise the purity of such a divine act.

Regarding projection of sex on Silverscreen, the ignoramus teens are always eager to ape their favourite celebrities in every sphere without reasoning or thinking what it actually connotes. They believe that copying their favourite so-called stars will lead to a Happy Ending to their stories just like Hindi Films! This all, just to be ‘in vogue’. Consequence..... we are aware of ever increasing cases of drugged drinks, rapes, pornographic clips and MMS, unwanted teen pregnancies and suicidal tendencies!

Indeed Mr Bhatt's thoughts need to be praised for having such a broadminded view and valued eye towards such an important aspect of life and we definitely need to have a healthy sane attitude towards SEX. But simultaneously other side of the coin needs to be highlighted and clarified for the upcoming youth who is vying with all its efforts to scale heights  in a short span of time by compromising with their morale and conscience. This only reflects weakness, feelings of insecurity, lack of self-confidence and doubt about their potentials to succeed with integrity shown by the willingness to succumb infront of the ogling eyes!

Also important is how and when to portray sex infront of the younger generation whose tender age and unmoulded intellect which cannot distinguish between the right and the wrong can mean guiding them into a false world of whims and fancies with a degrading future for cultural values. So sex should come along with maturity, when one can decide consciously about it with all its pros and cons.

After all, they have the right to decide the direction for themselves and step towards it....but only after knowing about the differences and the consequences. The duty of elders is to explain but not to impose!

Economic Divide - A Hidden Social Termite!

Are you witnessing a steep rise in the rate of crimes? Somebody kidnapped a child of the Rich & Famous....Somewhere a shop has been robbed in the wee hours of the night... Domestic help ran away with a ransome and jewellery from the employer's house.... Senior citizens staying alone been murdered .... and the list goes on... This is just the start of rising heads of Poor and the Destitutes against increasing economical divide in favour of capitalism, as the rich are becoming richer and the poor are becoming poorer. Since the Rich are hardly leaving any space for the Poor to breathe with ease, a rebel from the unfortunate poor is inevitable. To add to it, political leaders are busy making a niche in their so-called rajniti instead of paying heed to the millions who make them. Promises made but not kept. Every other day a new scam unleashed. Such is the situation that on left side are the Rich & Famous who have every luxury at their discretion and on right side are the Absolute needy who cant even afford to feed themselves or educate their wards properly. In the middle is an Authority controlling the reins of the Right and influenced by the Left. Little do they realise this will not stand the test of time since injustice has always invoked rebel throughout the pages of world history somewhere down the line....a revolution! If we still ignore this, we will fail to remain United. If we want our country to prosper peacefully, the HAVES have to understand the minimum needs and feelings of the HAVE-NOTS.

The Legacies of Indian Ayurveda

Yesterday I attended a seminar on "Metabolic diseases and Genetic testing" at a western suburb hotel as I found the topic interesting since genes and metabolism is at the background of health and lifestyle diseases.

The introduction was given by Dr Sunita Banerjee, Medical Director at Eternesse Antiaging Clinic, Mumbai about role of Allergy testings, Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy and Metabolic fingerprinting. She spoke of how low-grade inflammation to some diet ingredients unsuitable to few individuals as per their genetic constitution can make them feel lethargic and reduce the output and quality of their lives, that too without ever knowing what is affecting them (for example simple things like garlic/ onion which we all love to treat our taste buds with may be affecting a few adversely). She also spoke about How hormones keep fluctuating at different ages and take us through the journey of puberty, youth and ageing, and how the new concept of Bio-identical HRT which involves natural ways of hormone replacement sans HRT side-effects and natural supplements to maintain good hormones in body. It was an interesting talk.

This was followed by Mr George Panagios'(General Manager, Genecare, Australia) talk on what Genes are made of fundamentally, what is Gene testing, neutrigenomics, neutraceuticals and what they do at Genecare. He also showed a video clip of a talk by Dr Ian Brighthope from Australia who has worked a lot on nutrition and genomics. He spoke of interacton between nutrtion and genes and their effect on health; his talk stimulated my mind to rewind and recall a lot many things stored in my brain - like our ancient scriptures of Ayurveda, a book I was given to read by my Spiritual Guru on "Living foods for optimum health" by Brian Clement ,the blood type diet advocated by Peter D'Adamo, a naturopathic physician which is mentioned in his book Eat Right 4 Your Type, a movie I watched some time back and also one of the dreaded times in World history which witnessed an example of Genocide. I thought I must share my views with everyone present there so after the question and answers round with Mr George Panagios, I raised my hand and volunteered so. I spoke thus-

"In  ancient Indian traditional medicine called Ayurveda which dates back to thousands of years, the importance of nutrition on health has been stressed with every person having varying proportions of three doshas(elememtal energies) i.e. Vata, Pitta and Kapha and that each individual has a unique combination of these. Diet is at the core to maintain this balance and it was advised by the Rishi- Munis to follow different diets as per different combinations of doshas in body. So its known to us from thousands of years and it is now being deciphered differently, researched and documented by so many around the world.

On another note, Mr George rightly mentioned that we are in an age where Fiction becomes Fact and that research is advancing at a jetspeed; like we all have seen this movie called "Gattaca" released in 1997 which revolves around genetic testing and its implications on human beings and so are we  progressing now into that field. But every scientific advance comes with its pros and cons. Also the world has witnessed how Hitler went on a Genocide rampage to propagate only the stronger race and slaying the weaker ones. So as this science is advancing do we also need to formulate rules and regulations to safeguard the information deciphered and prevent discrimination because if Science can be a boon it can also be a curse! "

After I finished, Mr George Panagios gave his inputs and then we headed for next lectures on a new US FDA approved technology called Phadiatop and Immunocap from a swedish firm called Phadia which screens allergic individuals. This name had a sense of familiarity because of the co-incidence that even my surname sounds the same, though spellings differ. Not that I have any experience of this technology as of now, would like to see if it really is an effective screening method!

This was followed by an interesting lecture on mesotherapy by Dr Rebello, Medical director Eternesse Antiaging clinic, Mumbai. After Lecture was over I congratulated Dr Rebello for his informative lecture. Few Doctors who were talking to him complemented me about my views and congratulated me to have presented it very well not forgetting our roots of Ayurveda. This gesture from them  cleared my doubts whether I should have spoken so between all present there. I am glad I did so!

Proud of my Indian Heritage!!! JAI HO!!!
